Pickleball Boom (Nov 17, 2008 Baton Rouge, LA, www.2theadvocate.com) Pickleball — an interesting game with a silly name — remains unknown to many, but it has a devoted and increasing following, especially among 50-and-older athletes. Pickleball was added to the U.S. Senior Olympics this year, said Phil Godfrey, executive director of the National Senior Olympic Games Association, headquartered in Baton Rouge.
All Ages Can Enjoy The Game Of Pickleball (Nov 13, 2008 The Villages, FL, www.thevillagesdailysun.com) While it’s true that pickleball probably tops the list of many Villagers’ favorite activities, the game can be enjoyed by people of all ages. National Tournament Postponed
Due to a delay in the construction of the Surprise Arizona city courts, availability of a sufficient number of approved pickleball courts for the national tournament is not certain for November 2008. Regrettably, the decision to postpone the tournament is necessary. A revised date will be announced when availability of the courts can be assured or an alternate venue can be located.
USAPA Training Fund
Effective immediately, the USAPA will provide a fund each calendar year to subsidize training programs for local training of School students or local residents who do not yet play the game and do not belong to any Pickleball club. Initial funds for the year 2008 will be $1,500 and are available now.
